Perry studied and received a Bachelor's Degree in Fine Art from Washington State University, and has made a living with his art for over forty years. His work is included in numerous collections and he holds many awards, including the Alumni Award, Art Institute of Chicago; T. Bailey Inc. Corporate Award and Juror's Award, Anacortes Arts Festival; and numerous Best of Show Awards from juried shows.
Perry says, 'I try to narrow the gap between viewer and art by using less self-containment of image. By leaving room for interpretation, I want people to ponder meaning. In other words, I want my pictures to be windows into another reality where not everything is shown. I want the people who enter my art to question what is not shown. I accomplish this by playing with the dichotomies of interior and exterior, artificial and natural, and questioning what is private or public. I feel each piece of my art is like a word (or sentence), and with an interest in history, when all is said and done I would hope people would say I had something interesting to say.'
